Following the ancient Francigena Way we reach
the doors of San Gimignano, one of the most famous hill towns in Italy. Here
we walk to the top of the town bastions where exceptional views can be seen.
We then proceed to the Church of St. Fina (Ghirlandaio frescoes) and then
for a taste of local, Vernaccia wine. For ice cream lovers there is a special
treat: Dondoli's Ice Cream Parlor, which has won numerous awards and is thought
to be the best in Europe. We then proceed to Colle Val d'Elsa, the crystal
capital of Italy, for a visit to the most famous factory. Next we visit Monteriggioni,
a medieval walled village, built in 1203. Lunch will be served in the Castello
Restaurant. After lunch a brief walk around this small hamlet will reveal
its pristine state. The tour ends in Siena with a visit to the famous Piazza
del Campo, the Town Hall with frescoes by the Lorenzetti, the Duomo (Cathedral)
and Castelvecchio, the oldest part of the city.
