This day unique wine tasting and splendid
food begins at the Benedictine Abbey of St.Antimo, founded in 781 A.D. by
Charlemagne. The church acoustics are ideal for listening to Gregorian Chants
by the Augustinian monks who live in the abbey. Villa Banfi, one of the most
important and prestigious producers of Brunello wine, is the next stop on
this itinerary. It is followed by a stop at another castle where lunch and
a wine tasting of several Brunello vintages will be served. The final stop
will be in the town of Montalcino, where special attention will be devoted
to the medieval garrison where guests may purchase this prestigious wine.
Montalcino is also well known for its delicious honeys, many varieties of
which can be purchased in the local shops.
